A 8"x6" glass plate negative of the Sitting Room (no. 2) in Lancaster Tower, Windsor Castle (Room 240). It was formerly called the Tapestry Room. There are three large paintings, of King Edward VII, Queen Alexandra and possibly the Duke of Cambridge.
This negative is part of a collection of negatives of interiors of Windsor Castle, photographed for Queen Mary by Country Life about 1931, and executed by Henry Dixon & Son Ltd (probably Thomas Dixon). A number of photograph albums were presented to King George V and Queen Mary between 1931 and 1933 (RCINs 2100898, 2104686, 2935815, 2865471). The negatives appear to have been presented to the Royal Collection sometime after 1933 (see also 2407758-2407782, 2410999-2411001, 2407799-2407814, 2407815-2407846, 2407847-2407869).
The Windsor Castle plates were housed in several boxes, two with the label 'Henry Dixon & Sons Ltd (incorporating WE Gray), Fine Art Technical & Commercial Photographers, 112 Albany Street, London, NW1' (with Royal Warrant logo) - RCINs 2413012, 2418795, 2418806, 2418811, 2418830, 2418831. The plate has a broken corner. -
