A whole plate (8x10 inch) glass plate negative of Room 227, which was the Boudoir of Princess Victoria of Wales (1868-1935), and was formerly the Governess's Room. Here is shown the west door with six painted panels by Richard Buckner (1812-87) (see RL 22508-25512, the top left picture is untraced), which were probably acquired by Queen Victoria about June 1845. Next to the door is a section of wooden panelling, painted, hung with an oval portrait of Queen Alexandra, and small plates displayed above on a moulded shelf above the panelling. There are also framed pictures above and on the panelling. To right is a table with a small kidney-shaped bookcase, a boat-shaped dish and small dish. The wallpaper is a repeating floral garland on stripy background design. Matching print is 2936771 but also useful to compare with 2401916 (a 'before' photograph). Over Queen Alexandra are Tournai plates RCIN 36947.1 & 2 (left and right) and centre Sevres RCIN 58642.8. Over the door are Sevres plates RCIN 58642.4 & 19 (left and right) The small dish is style of Sevres RCIN 45073.1. FP II.181. The boat-shape dish is Tournai RCIN 33366.1-7. The table and bookcase cannot be found on the CMS. The pictures over the door and panelling are difficult to identify.
