A 9 x 7 glass plate negative of an Indian banner said to have belonged to Tipu, Sultan of Mysore (1750-99), taken in 1806 (RCIN 90664). The banner was recorded in the Windsor Castle Inventory of Arms part 1, North Corridor, no.455 (RCIN 1122400), but a photograph not placed in the volume. See also RCIN 2400543.
The banner was said to have been taken by Major General Sir Robert Rollo Gillespie on 11 July 1806, in a 'mutiny [which] originated with the sons of the late Tippoo Sultan'. It was subsequently presented to George, Prince of Wales (later George IV) and displayed in his Armoury at Carlton House. -
