A 5 x4 inch glass plate negative of a gold bracelet and two toe rings presented to Queen Victoria by Samori Turé (c. 1830-1900), also known as Alamamy Samori Koro, in 1889. He was a Muslim cleric and leader of the Wassoulou Empire, which covered parts of modern-day Guinea, Siera Leone, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso. His army was defeated by the French and he died in captivity in 1900.
