Photograph which appeared as a print on china featuring a portrait of Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942) and Prince Leopold later Duke of Albany (1853-84). The young princes wear costumes of the sons of King Henry IV (in the play of Richard II), in the final scene of Charles Kean's Richard II which was performed at Windsor Castle in February 1857. The Prince's wore the costumes at the bal costume that took place on the 7 April 1859.
The photograph is from a folder of photographs of paintings and artworks displayed in Prince Albert's (1819-61) rooms. The china that featured this photograph was part of the artworks on show in the Prince Consort's Writing Room, Windsor Castle.Provenance
