Photograph of a painting depicting Sir Colin Campbell (1792-1863) leading the 4th Punjab Rifles and the 93rd Highlanders to storm Secundra Bagh, now Sikandar Bagh. Campbell features on the centre-left of the composition, on a light coloured horse, pointing ahead.
The storming of the Sikander Bagh took place on 17 November 1857 by British troops under the command of Sir Colin Campbell. The villa was built by Wajid Ali Shah. During the Siege of Lucknow, the villa became a stronghold and was occupied by over 2000 Sepoy Rebels, many of whom were slain by the 93rd Highlanders and 4th Punjabi Infantry.Provenance
