Photograph of the town of Inveraray in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The view is taken from the banks Loch Fyne in the foreground on which can be seen a man who stoops to inspect something on the ground. In the distance is the town with the Town House standing in the centre on the front.
Inveraray is the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Argyll and the town was largely re-built by the 5th Duke of Argyll in the mid 18th century. The Town House was one of the town's principal buildings and was designed by John Adams in 1754. The Edinburgh architect, Robert Mylne, was responsible for re-designing the majority of the town's buildings during the late 18th century.Provenance
Acquired by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1972
