  • Photograph of a train travelling along a narrow track on mountainous terrain, called Sensation Rock at Kadugannawa, on the Kandy railway network, Sri Lanka.

    From an album of photographs of the visit of George V (1865-1936) and Queen Mary (1867-1953) when the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), in April 1901 (RCINs 2362448-2362477). The album includes photographs of the Duke and Duchess with officials including the Governor of Ceylon and of their arrival in Colombo, photographs of the presentation of the colours to the Ceylon Mounted Infantry, presentation of the medals to the South African contingent, Kandyan chiefs and their daughters and panoramic views of Colombo and views of Kandy. The album includes extensive information about the visit including who the Duke and Duchess met, descriptions of where they visited and a list of the photographs included.
