Photograph of the interior of Winchester Cathedral from the nave facing the east with the choir screen in the background. On the right hand side in the foreground, stands a man with his leg placed on the base of a pillar and his arm raised to rest on the stonework. This photograph is another of the series of photographs of Cathedrals that Wilson produced during the period 1861 to 1863. The photograph shows the choir screen that Edward Garbett (1817-87) designed to replace the earlier screen designed by Inigo Jones during the first half of the 17th century. The screen was subsequently replaced with another designed by the architect George Gilbert Scott (1811-78) that still stands today
