Photograph of Peterborough Cathedral with a view beyond the screen towards the choir and the roof of the choir.
Peterborough Cathedral was constructed between 1118 and 1237. It is typical of the Romanesque and Early English Gothic style of ecclesiastical architecture. The Cathedral organ seen in this photograph was replaced during the 1890's. This photograph is a carbon copy of the original albumen photograph. Carbon was a process that was less susceptible to fading, unlike an albumen print that is prone to discolouration over time.Provenance
From an album of photographs collected and arranged by Albert, Prince Consort, between 1860 and 1861
