This photograph is deliberately framed to include large boulders in the foreground. By adding foreground interest, a sense of depth is created which serves to enhance the 3 dimensional effect when viewed through a stereoscope. This photograph was reviewed in the British Journal of Photography on the 15th January 1860 and was probably taken in the autumn of 1859.
