Also seated on the couch is Sophie, Archduchess of Austria (1805-72) and mother of Franz Joseph I. She is facing the viewer and wears a headdress which is tied underneath her chin with a wide ribbon. Her husband Archduke Franz Karl of Austria (1802-78) is seated in a chair next to the couch. He is facing the viewer and wears a top hat.
