The Duchess of York is holding the infant Princess Elizabeth while Queen Mary holds an umbrella above them.

This photograph was taken on the 27th June 1927 when the Duke and Duchess of York returned from an extensive tour of Australia and New Zealand. Despite the heavy rain, large crowds gathered on the Mall to greet the royal couple on their return. For the duration of the tour the young Princess Elizabeth had remained in Britain with her grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary, and other relatives.
