Photograph of the Temple of Venus, one of the many follies in the grounds of Stowe House, Buckinghamshire, with a man on the fence. Queen Mary and Princess May visited Stowe, on 2nd July 1919, home of the Marchioness of Kinross, Lady Mary Morgan-Grenville (1852-1944) and her second son Rev Luis Morgan-Grenville. The house and most of its contents, gardens and park were later sold in 1921 due to high maintenance costs and unsustainable debts. It is now an independent school and the gardens managed by National Trust.
Provenance
From an album of photographs acquired and arranged by Queen Mary, between July 1918 and June 1921
