Photograph of King George V (1865-1936) and Queen Mary (1867-1953) standing in front of thrones under a pavilion. Sir Pherozshah Mehta (1845-1915) bows to King George. The photograph was taken in Bombay, now Mumbai, on their arrival in India. A pavilion in the Indo-Saracenic style was erected with a dias for two chairs of state. The Viceroy of India and the Secretary of State for India, Lord Charles Hardinge and the Earl of Crewe stand on the left, with other senor senior officials, in full dress uniform. Queen Mary's Ladies-in-Waiting and staff members are standing to right. Both the King and the Queen wore the star of India; she wore a yellow-flowered chiffon dress with the blue Garter sash, while the King was dressed in white Admiral's uniform.
A version of this photograph was published in the Sphere, 30 December 1911. -
