Photograph of an overhead view of the Royal Procession through Temple Bar, London the day following the Coronation of King George V (1865-1936). The King and Queen Mary (1867-1953) are seated in the 1902 State Landau drawn by eight horses with postilions. The photograph captures the moment before the Lord Mayor of London surrenders his sword to the newly crowned monarch, a tradition following coronations. Crowds of people line both sides of the street to view the procession. The street is decorated with banners, flags and garlands. Photographers stand on the street on the left of the photograph.
It is likely one of the photographer is Sir Benjamin Stone, who captured the events at close range (RCIN 2113929). -
