The photograph captures the moment before the Lord Mayor of London surrenders his sword to the newly crowned monarch, a tradition following coronations. Crowds of people line both sides of the street to view the procession. The street is decorated with banners, flags and garlands. Photographers stand on the street on the left of the photograph.
