Photograph of people from different ethnic groups in Burma, now Myanmar, in their traditional dress and jewellery. They appear to be on board a ship, as there are sailors at the back, and the Burmese people seem to be in a line. The photograph is not captioned. Burma is an ethnically diverse country with at least 135 ethnic groups. Like all Collection records, this object is subject to ongoing research. Royal Collection Trust welcomes further information relating to the identity of those depicted in the photograph.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, later King George V and Queen Mary, visited Ragoon between 13-15th January 1906. Burma was under British control, after the 2nd Anglo-Burmese War in 1852, until the Japanese invasion in 1942 and finally gained its independence in 1948.Provenance
