A scene in Rangoon, now Yangon, Myanmar Jan 1906

-
Photograph of the welcome arch in Rangoon, now Yangon, Myanmar (modern-day Burma), in a mixture of Western and Burmese styles, with a sign saying 'Welcome to our future King and Queen'. There are niches for sculptures within the arch. Burma was under British control, after the 2nd Anglo-Burmese War in 1852, until the Japanese occupation in 1942 and finally gained its independence in 1948..
Provenance
