Photograph of a scene in Rangoon, now Yangon, Myanmar (modern-day Burma), with Burmese people standing by two signs with different script, possibly Chinese (not Burmese or Mon). The people are wearing a mixture of Western-style clothing and their own clothes. The Prince and Princess of Wales, later King George V and Queen Mary, visited Ragoon between 13-15th January 1906. Burma was under British control, after the 2nd Anglo-Burmese War in 1852, until the Japanese invasion in 1942 and finally gained its independence in 1948.
