A photograph of the New Palace in Darmstadt, a 19th century, neo-classical, stucco building with bow windows. The Duke and Duchess of York stayed here in April 1896, as guests of their cousins, the Grand Duke and Duchess of Hesse-Darmstadt, before travelling to Coburg for a family wedding. Darmstadt was badly bombed in 1944 which devastated the old city centre, including the palace.
