Sèvres soft paste porcelain pair of vases. Bleu nouveau ground and gilt decoration, incurved collar and cover with pine cone finial above the interlaced rim, splayed gadrooned foot edged with beading and laurel wreath. The four reserves are suspended from studs and bows and with oak leaf surrounds, the front oval reserves with polychrome paintings of pastoral and musical scenes, posies of flowers and fruit to the reverse and sides.
Provenance
Purchased by George IV from Robert Fogg on 10 October 1815 at a cost of £189 (‘2 do [Seve Porcelaine Vases] Strolling Players do [fine blue ground] £189’). Recorded in 1826 in the Confectionary, Carlton House: ‘No.117. A pair of smaller Seve Porcelain side Vases and Covers; similar to the last, but with turquoise beading round the top, the fronts painted with itinerant musicians, the three other compartments in bouquets of flowers and musical Trophies, same Plinths, 17 In. high – Recently purchased by Sir Chas Long’.
