Box second half of eighteenth century

Patch box. Made for export and copying a European model, an oval cup, with rising sides, rounded below on an almost flat base, one side flattened and everted at the lip, which is bound in gilt bronze and fitted with a hinge for the cover, rounded on top and with a tongue at the front to engage in a simple catch. Painted round the sides, three quail by blue rocks, peonies and daisies, and above, a sketchy, narrow, floral border and a spray of pink hibiscus, and on the top, a panel with a pair of the same birds and flowers; inside, in black and gilt, sprays of orchid, and on the lid, a rose spray. It's pair is RCIN 22481.
