-
Photograph of Queen Elizabeth II (b.1926) cradling an infant Prince Andrew (b.1960). In the head and shoulder portrait, Queen Elizabeth is standing, her body turned to the left. Photographed in a three quarter turn, she looks away from the camera and smiles. Her right hand is captured in the process of patting Prince Andrew's back, slightly lifted away from his body. She is wearing pearl earrings, a peal necklace and a dress edged with velvet. Prince Andrew is wearing a white gown trimmed with lace. The photograph was taken in Buckingham Palace and features a neutral white background.
The Queen’s third child, Prince Andrew, was born on 19 February 1960 at Buckingham Palace, and was christened on 8 April. He was the first child to be born to a reigning monarch for 103 years. Prince Andrew was created The Duke of York shortly before his marriage in July 1986.Provenance
