Queen Elizabeth II holding Prince Andrew 16 - 16 Mar 1960
-
Photograph of Queen Elizabeth II (b.1926) cradling an infant Prince Andrew (b.1960). In the half-length portrait, Queen Elizabeth is standing, her body turned to the left. Captured in a three quarter turn, she looks away from the camera, focusing on something in the distance. She lightly rests her left cheek on Prince Andrew's head. She is wearing pearl earrings, a peal necklace and a dress edged with velvet. Prince Andrew is wearing a white gown trimmed with lace. The photograph was taken in Buckingham Palace and features a neutral white background.
The Queen’s third child, Prince Andrew, was born on 19 February 1960 at Buckingham Palace, and was christened on 8 April. He was the first child to be born to a reigning monarch for 103 years. Prince Andrew was created The Duke of York shortly before his marriage in July 1986.Provenance
