-
Photograph of Queen Elizabeth II (b.1926) holding an infant Prince Andrew (b.1960), later Duke of York. In the half-length portrait, Queen Elizabeth is standing, her body turned to the left. Captured in a three quarter turn, she is looking away from the camera, to the left, and smiling. She is wearing pearl earrings, a peal necklace and a dress edged with velvet. Prince Andrew faces the camera, his mouth slightly open. He is wearing a white gown trimmed with lace. The photograph was taken in Buckingham Palace and features a neutral white background.
The Queen’s third child, Prince Andrew, was born on 19 February 1960 at Buckingham Palace, and was christened on 8 April. He was the first child to be born to a reigning monarch for 103 years. Prince Andrew was created The Duke of York shortly before his marriage in July 1986.Provenance
