Photograph showing an overview of the annual boat procession on Fellows' Eyot, on the River Thames, seen from the Windsor side, with a barge at the pier, and four rowing boats with boys standing up with their punts. There is a large marquee on Fellows' Eyot, under which a number of people stand, including possibly Queen Mary (1867-1953) and King George V (1865-1936) and the Headmaster, Rev. Edward Lyttelton (1855-1942). There are large crowds of people on either side of the marquee, and more people standing on the opposite bank, including a photographer with his camera on a tripod. Parts of Eton College are in the background.
The photograph was taken on 16 June 1913, and it was part of an annual event called 'the Fourth of June' to mark the birthday of King George III, who frequently visited Eton College for many years. King George V's younger son Prince Henry, later Duke of Gloucester started at Eton College in September 1913.
From a blue photograph album with black leather corners and a black leather spine, containing photographs collected by Queen Mary. -
