Glass plate negative of Marcus Adams (1875-1959) seated in right side profile on the left with Prince Charles (b. 1948), seated on the right in left side profile. A toy monkey is placed between them. Marcus Adams with Prince Charles during a sitting in October 1953. The unconventional design of Adams’s camera, which he built himself, included a length of rubber tubing at the end of which was a bulb that, when squeezed, would operate the shutter. This meant that Adams could interact freely with his sitter, waiting for just the right moment to take his picture. In this photograph, it is possible to see the rubber tubing hanging down from Adams’s right hand which is holding the bulb.
Provenance
