The Duchess of Kent's Mausoleum, Frogmore c. 1876
-
Photograph of the entrance to the mausoleum at Frogmore in Windsor Home Park. In the foreground, a stone balustrade leads to the domed building that contains a statue of the Duchess of Kent that can be seen in a recess. Trees flank the building.
The mausoleum was designed by Albert Jenkins Humbert (1821-77) to a design by Professor Ludwig Gruner. The domed upper section of the mausoleum was intended for use as a summer house for the Duchess but was not complete when the Duchess died in March 1861. It was then used as an extension to the original mausoleum that occupied the lower section of the building. -
