Photograph of the Montgomery Hall, Lahore. The hall has a high vaulted ceiling which is hung with glass chandeliers. There are two storeys with a metal railing running the parameter of the second floor, interspaced with columns. Small tables holding flags, shields and trophies line the edge of the hall.
The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII attended a ball in the Montgomery Hall during his stay in Lahore, as part of his tour of the Indian Subcontinent in 1875/6. The hall was built probably about 1866 and was named after Sir Robert Montgomery (1809-87) who was a Colonial administrator; he became Lieutenant-Governor of Lahore from 1859 to 1865. It is now part of Qauid-e-Azam Library in Lahore, Pakistan.Provenance
