A life size painted plaster statue of the King Henri IV of France. He is shown standing, with his left hand resting on the hilt of his sword while his right hand holds the leaves of a laurel branch issuing from a stump behind him. Henri IV is depicted wearing contemporary court dress with doublet and hose, a ruff around his neck and wrists and a sash with the cross of the Order of the Holy Spirit. His plumed hat lies on the ground by his right side.
Provenance
Bought in Paris in 1825 for King George IV through Sir Hilgrove Turner, Groom of the Bedchamber from 1812 (Prev Inv.) Placed in the Temporary Conservatory, Carlton House.
