Photograph of Queen Victoria seated with her two Indian servants Ghulam Mustafa and Sheikh Chidda standing behind her wearing the Indian servants' court livery with the Queen Empresses monogram, VRI, embroidered on the chest and with medals. The Queen is holding a fan in her left hand, and wears two of her wheat-ear diamond brooches along the top edge of her dress. She is also wearing the Coronation necklace and matching diamonds. This photograph was issued during the Diamond Jubilee year of 1897.
Sheikh Chidda joined the Royal Household in 1892 and retired from service in 1901.
Ghulam or Ghulum Mustafa, also known as Syed Mustafa, served as an Indian cook in Queen Victoria's Household. He was replaced by Sheikh Chidda on 1 January 1892 but remained in the Queen's Household until July 1901 when he received a pension. In recognition of his service, he was presented with the Victoria Faithful Service Medal.
The Austrian painter Rudolf Swoboda painted Sheikh Chidda and Ghulam Mustafa in 1893 as part of a series of over 40 portraits of people from South Asia that was commissioned by Queen Victoria.
