Photograph showing Rosenau Palace at Coburg taken from the garden. A woman is seated on a bench in front of the Palace, beneath a small balcony extending from the second floor.
The Palace was the birthplace and childhood home of Prince Albert. This is one of a series of photographs that were commissioned by Queen Victoria to be presented to her husband Prince Albert on his birthday in August 1857. Bedford, accompanied by his wife, travelled to Coburg in June and early July to photograph the places associated with the Prince's childhood. The woman sitting on the bench below the balcony is possibly Bedford's wife.Provenance
