The Queen's Bed Room, Buckingham Palace 1873
-
Photograph of Queen Victoria's Bedroom, looking towards the half-tester bed. The ceiling is a complicated moulded design with rosettes, garlands and lozenges. The walls have striped floral wallpaper and a number of paintings, including one of Prince Albert reading a book by Herbert Smith (RCIN 400766) and a portrait of Queen Victoria's father-in-law, Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha by John Lucas (RCIN 405659). The carpet is floral. There are armchairs covered in chintz. On either side of the fireplace are a number of pictures, two of which is probably a pair of paintings on enamel of photographs by Leonida Caldesi of Prince Arthur in 1857, Queen's Victoria's favourite son (RCINs 407306 and 407309). These are now at Frogmore.
