Photograph of the Ballroom, Buckingham Palace, designed by Sir James Pennethorne, and decorated by Ludwig Gruner and Nicola Consoni, under Prince Albert's direction. The wall are divided by a row of windows and 'Raphaelesque' panels and large silk lining panels, below which are a set of tiered banquettes. At the far end is an arched proscenium and clock with mirrored panels and statues. There is a parquet floor.
The room was completely redesigned in 1907 under the direction of Edward VII, in the fashionable beaux-arts Louis XVI manner, with oeil-de-boeuf windows and painted cream and gold. -
