The Throne Room, Buckingham Palace 1873
-
Photograph of the Throne Room, Buckingham Palace, looking towards the throne dais and canopy. There are five cut-glass chandeliers visible (in which 200 candles were said to be lit during one of Queen Victoria's balls of the 1840s). There is a large dining table and stools in the centre, and a Council chair (RCIN 2629). The canopy and Queen's Victoria throne (RCIN 2608) is separated from the body of the room by a proscenium arch, from which two life-size winged genii hold the garlanded initials of George IV. The silk lining is a striped pattern and there are four wall trophies in giltwood within the alcove.
