Glass plate negative of a full-length group portrait, showing, from right to left: Prince Frederick William of Prussia (1831-88), later Frederick III of Germany; Princess Helena (1846-1923); Prince Alfred (1844-1900); Prince Albert Edward of Wales (1841-1910), later King Edward VII; Princess Alice (1843-78), later Grand Duchess of Hesse; Queen Victoria (1819-1901); Princess Victoria (1840-1901); Princess Louise (1848-1939), later Duchess of Argyll and Prince Albert (1819-61), who stands, leaning against a tree in left side profile. The group stand in the grounds of Balmoral.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2160317.Provenance
