Maquette of the Prince Albert memorial, Kensington Gardens 1863-76
RCIN 2083873

-
Glass plate negative of a maquette relating to the Prince Albert memorial in Kensington Gardens. It shows a view of 'Manufacturing', submitted for one of the four innermost allegorical programmes of the monument representing four groups of Victorian industrial arts and sciences (agriculture, commerce, engineering and manufacturing). It seems that the positioning of the kneeling figure was changed in the executed version.
A card with Henry Weekes's (1807-1877) surname has been placed against the base.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints form this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.Provenance
