The sitters are, from left to right, Princess Helena (1846-1923), Princess Clotilde (1846-1927), Princess Amélie (1848-1894) and Princess Louise (1848-1939). Princesses Helena and Louise wear similar dresses, similarly, princesses Clotilde and Amélie wear similar dresses. The young girls are standing between various types of foliage arranged on either side of the makeshift studio.
