Glass plate negative featuring two full length portraits of Princess Helena and Princess Louise. Princess Helena is seated and gazes down at a book she holds open with both hands, positioned on her lap. Princess Louise stands behind her, similarly looking at the book. She places one hand around her sister's shoulder. The princesses wear similar clothing consisting of a locket, light coloured shirt, tied at the waist with dark coloured material, and a dark coloured skirt.
The negative image on the left has been scratched out, an act perhaps indicative of a displeasing pose.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from the intact portrait exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900211.Provenance
