Glass plate negative of a portrait painting of Princess Beatrice (RCIN 404472), created by John Callcott Horsley in 1858. The young princess appears full-length, seated on the grass beside a large basket of flowers. Part of Osborne House, the royal family's seaside palace on the Isle of Wight, and the sea are depicted in the background.
Princess Beatrice was just over a year old when this picture was painted. She was the fifth daughter and youngest child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exists in the Collection.Provenance
