Large framed photograph of HM The Queen when Princess Elizabeth, full-length, facing one quarter to the right with her head turned half to the right. She is wearing a light-colour evening gown with embroidered skirt, evening gloves, necklace, earrings and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. She is standing at the bottom of a staircase, holding a flower spray bouquet with roses and carnations. In plain giltwood frame.
The occasion was a charity showing of the film of 'The Lady with the Lamp' at the Warner Theatre on 22 September 1951, in support of the Royal College of Nursing. She was accompanied by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and the Countess of Mountbatten. The evening was attended by many nurses and featured a display of Florence Nightingale’s medals and her original lamp. The film was an adaptation of a play by Reginald Berkeley and was directed by Herbert Wilcox, starring Anna Neagle as Florence Nightingale with Michael Wilding and Felix Aylmer. -
