The occasion was a charity showing of the film of 'The Lady with the Lamp' at the Warner Theatre on 22 September 1951, in support of the Royal College of Nursing. She was accompanied by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and the Countess of Mountbatten. The evening was attended by many nurses and featured a display of Florence Nightingale’s medals and her original lamp. The film was an adaptation of a play by Reginald Berkeley and was directed by Herbert Wilcox, starring Anna Neagle as Florence Nightingale with Michael Wilding and Felix Aylmer.
