Photograph of the painting 'Distraining for Rent' by Sir David Wilkie (1785–1841). The painting depicts a large family faced with possible eviction from their home as they are unable to pay the rent. At the centre of the composition, a man is seated at table. He leans on the table and places his head in his left hand. On the right, a group of men and a bailiff appear to be evicting the family.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of William Wells. The painting is now held by the National Galleries Scotland.
