Photograph of the painting 'The Pet of the Common' by John Callcott Horsley (1817-1903). The painting depicts a group of children standing in a natural setting. In the foreground, a young male child stands facing the viewer. He is holding a young donkey. A female child stands beside him, stroking the donkey's neck. A young girl is seated on the left, beside the other children. In the background on the right, a woman walks her young child. She looks behind her at an adult donkey. There is a building in the distant background, on the left. Part of an inventory number can be seen in the lower left corner.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of a J Eden. The painting is now held by Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums.Provenance
