Photograph of the right and final panel of the triptych 'The Martyrdom of Laurence Saunders at Coventry' by Charles West Cope (1811-90). The painting depicts a man, likely Saunders, standing outside. Her holds his hands together in front of his chest and gazes up at the sky. Two guards stand before him, walking towards the background, and two men stand behind him. There is a stake and a large crowd in the background.
At the time of the photograph, she painting was in the collection of Mrs Thurburn. The painting is now held by the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry.Provenance
