Roger Fenton (1819-69)
The New Castle at Balmoral under construction Sep 1855
24.9 x 30.5 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2079382
-
Glass plate negative showing the front view of Balmoral Castle with the driveway curving towards the front entrance of the new Castle. The clock tower, partially visible behind the weather vane tower on the left, is yet to be completed. Hills and trees in the background.
There is a abrasion mark just below the building's battlemented porte cochère.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection, however a variant is represented by RCIN 2140233.Provenance
