Marble bust of King Edward VII when Prince of Wales, his head turned slightly upward and to his left, with centrally parted hair, full beard and moustache. The eyes are drilled. He wears a collar and loosely knotted tie beneath a buttoned coat. Curved truncation at the front. Incised along the back truncation: H.R.H. The Prince of Wales. Incised on the truncation of the left shoulder: J.E. Boehm Fecit / 1875.The back is hollowed smooth, with a central columnar post. Raised on a turned-and-waisted circular socle.
The Prince of Wales’s engagement diary for 1875 records a visit to Boehm’s studio on 13 February, and sittings on 6 and 12 March. He visited the studio with Princess Alice on 25 May, and further appointments with Boehm are noted on 18 June and 1 July.
