Photograph of HM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia as they ride together in an open Landau from Victoria Station to Buckingham Palace on the arrival of the Emperor to the United Kingdom.
Emperor Haile Selassie accompanied by the Duke of Harar, sailed from Malta to Portsmouth on board HMS Gambia. They were met at Portsmouth by the Duke of Gloucester and the British Suite. Following an Address of Welcome presented to the Emperor at Portsmouth Guildhall, the cortege travelled by train to Victoria Railway station where they were met by HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Gloucester. A carriage procession then conveyed the Emperor and his suite to Buckingham Palace where he was to stay during his visit. -
