Photograph taken on the engagement of Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Buckingham Palace. Press photographers were invited to Buckingham Palace on the day that the royal engagement was made public, 10 July 1947. Princess Elizabeth’s clasped hands show off her engagement ring made by the jewellers, Philip Antrobus Ltd, using diamonds from a tiara belonging to Prince Philip’s mother.
