The Visit 2002
float glass and copper | RCIN 200224

-
A sculpture entitled The Visit, comprising a pale green glass dish with a bowl-shaped centre inset with copper wire figures on copper stand.
The copper wire figures within this glass piece represent a ‘royal walkabout’, showing The Queen and Prince Philip walking amongst crowds waving flags and shaking hands with well-wishers. The simple, delicate copper figures are deliberately indistinguishable from one another to suggest the equality of all people. The artist, Kevin Wallhead, was commissioned to produce the work ahead of The Queen’s visit to Normanby Hall in North Lincolnshire during her Golden Jubilee tour. He presented the gift in person.
Provenance
Presented to The Queen to commemorate her Golden Jubilee 2002 by North Lincolnshire District Council on 31 July 2002
