An Indian carved and painted ivory model of an elephant carrying a howdah with three section canopy with ten pointed gilt finials covering one figure in front and four behind. A King chess piece. This piece belonging to a larger set (see RCINs 19665-19679). Painted ivory chess sets modelled on figures typically seen in an Indian court were designed for the export market.
